Since its founding in 1966, the Abilene Zoo has stood as a place of learning an adventure. Open daily year-round, the lushly landscaped 16-acre park is home to more than 1,000 animals of more than 270 species. The new Giraffe Safari area includes a slate of African species, including the zoo's mascots: a herd of giraffe, which guests can hand-feed from a large raised deck.

The Agricultural Heritage Museum is located in Boerne City Park on over 5 acres. A blacksmith shop, woodworking shop, pioneer house, wagon house, main museum building and many outdoor exhibits showcase antique farm machinery and implements. Blacksmiths work on Saturdays and demonstrate their craft.

Located on the Republic of Texas Plaza, the living-history museum complex consists of two historic houses, the oldest existing one-room schoolhouse in Harris County, a replica barn that can be used for meetings and other activities. Physical office, gift shop and reference library not yet open to the public, will be housed on site in the 1898 house now being restored. All staff/docents are volunteer at this time.

The Buggy Barn Museum is located in the beautiful hill country of Blanco, Texas. Just 50 miles from almost all surrounding areas; the museum makes it a great place to escape for the day. The museum is dedicated to providing a unique educational opportunity to step back in time. Expansion of the museum's collection and promoting the preservation of these modes of horse drawn transportation in history are two of the museums primary goals.

For example, many schools now make their requests in September for much later in the school year.

The Depot Museum interpretates Rusk County heritage and culture. The museum has eleven structure on four acres of land the the tell story of pioneers, treasure hunters and wild catters. The history dates from primative Caddo indians to 1947 formation of the Henderson Brick Plant. New this year will be opening of a restored cotton gin. The museum tells the economic history of the county with its cotton gin, sawmill and oil derrick.

Home of the Griffin Papers, dating back to 1831 (can be used as in-house research) and certified copies are obtainable.

Pioneer Farms is a living history museum depicting the lifestyle of early-day Texans - when Austin was just a small town, long before cars and cell phones had been invented, when bonnets and buggies were in vogue. Pioneer Farms is a volunteer-run property of the Heritage Society of Austin, one of Texas' oldest organizations dedicated to historic preservation.
Step back in time for a variety of educational programs for both children and adults.

A unit of the Museum of Texas Tech University, the Lubbock Lake Landmark is an archaeological and natural history preserve at the northern edge of the city of Lubbock, Texas. The Landmark contains evidence of almost 12,000 years of occupation by ancient peoples on the Southern High Plains.

The Landmark welcomes visitors of all ages year round. In the summer months, watch as areas on the preserve are actively excavated.

The Museums of Port Isabel located in historic Port Isabel at the southernmost tip of Texas surrounded by the beautiful waters of the Laguna Madre Bay consists of three unique museums - the Port Isabel Lighthouse Historic Site complex, the Port Isabel Historical Museum, and the Treasures of the Gulf Museum. Each of the museum compliments the other and each interprets the maritime, military, art, history and culture of the Laguna Madre area.
Fort Bliss, Texas

In an effort to present a more accurate picture of Fort Bliss at Magoffinsville site, the buildings now house “period rooms” representing life at the post and surrounding area in 1857. The garrison then consisted of several companies of the 8th Infantry and a company Regiment of Mounted Rifles. Daily activities necessary to house, feed, and maintain a military force at a remote frontier outpost are interpreted in the period rooms and work yard.

Old Fort Parker is a very early Texas fort built in 1833, and since reconstructed. The Comanche Indains as well as the Anglo Parker participate in keeping this historic site alive. We have primitive camping, 35 Rv hookups with water, 19 air conditioned rooms in historic barracks and a historic house available for lodging A visitor center is available for rent to serve meals etc.
