Description

The Old Post Office Museum & Art Center (OPOMAC) is dedicated to the development & maintenacne of a general museum of history & fine arts for the education & the enrichment fo the citizens of Young County & its environs. OPOMAC collects, preserves & exhibits items related to the history of the Young County region with empahasis circa 1850 to present. Our goal is to bring about a better understanding & appreciation of history, art & the natural environment of the area & to utilize the United States Post Office building, which operated as such until 1992 in the City of Graham, as a respository for the objects of the permanent colleciton.

History

Located in the former U.S. Post Office (1937- 1992), the City of Graham purchased the building in 1993 for the purpose of a museum and art center. The building contains one of the post office murals by the Texas artist, Alexander Hogue. The mural, titled "Oil Fields of Graham", is on permanent loan basis from the postal service.

We are presently conducting a capital fund drive for the renovation of the building for a history museum and art center and hope to be operating as a museum on a regular basis in the near future.

Artifact Collections

Mural painted in 1939 by Alexandre Hogue, as part of aWPA project for the U. S. Postal Service.
