Description

We are planning to do more programming during our "open " season from May - October. We hope to increase our membership by being more visible and are working on better storage and display of our artifacts. We are also going to be seeking additional funding from the two townships involved, since our small society of approximately 50 members has fiancial constraints. We have, through the generosity of many small and major private donations, repainted the outside of our historic building twice, the inside once and re-roofed the building, in addition to putting up a "barn" to house larger agricultural artifacts, since actually purchasing the property.

History

The Bark River Woods Historical Society was formed in 1976 as a bicentennial project by a group of retired teachers from Hebron & Cold Spring townships in Jefferson County,WI. When the country school in Hebron was consolidated into the Fort Atkinson School district, the Town of Hebron purchased the school and moved it's business there. The old Town Hall was leased and eventually purchased by, the Historical Society. Built in 1902, it is now the Town Hall Museum and is on the National & State Register of Historic Buildings. We have added a "barn" building to house larger agricultural tools and have acquired the rest of what was original town hall property.

Artifact Collections

Memoprabilia and genealogies from pioneer families and other individuals, including the Wintermute Circus and town histories, agricultural equipment, club histories, school histories, business histories and miscellaneous.

Research Collections

Some genealogies for local families are availabe; we have booklets to purchase on the history of the townships, the society and the Town Hall building.
