The chief responsability of the AAHS is the operation and management of the 1838 Raney House Museum which is owned by the City of Apalachicola and was officially recorded in National Register of Historic Places on January 22, 1973. The Raney House Museum has on display furniture, documents and other artifacts from the 19th century.

The Apalachicola Maritime Museum has been re founded to celebrate the maritime history of Apalachicola in the form of a maritime museum with active sailing, boat building and restoration and educational programs. The activities of the AMM provide insight into the rich history of the Gulf coastal region and river systems that come together to form the largest river in Florida.
