Founded in 1936, the Antiquarian & Landmarks Society (A & L), Connecticut's statewide heritage organization, promotes interest in historic properties by preserving and interpreting significant personal stories and collections. The Antiquarian & Landmarks Society owns nine historic houses opened to public. All are on their original sites and most have intact original collections.

Currently the Society's projects include full restoration of the Derrin House on West Avon Road, proper storage of many artifacts in the Living Museum and Pine Grove Schoolhouse, answering local history questions, giving referrals to those who seek "experts" to help with their historic home or genealogy questions, publishing a newsletter and planning fundraising events.

The East Granby Historical Society announces that its new book, The Barns of East Granby: Our Agricultural Heritage, is now available for sale at the East Granby town clerk's office. It can also be purchased by using the on-line order form. Authored by two longtime East Granby residents, Betty Guinan and Ted Holly, the book features 269 photos over 130 pages.

If you would like to learn more about the society, become a member or volunteer, please contact us. Volunteers are needed to help with hospitality, lead walking tours of the Freedom Trail, work as docents at the Old Stone Schoolhouse, plan events and programs, research and write articles for our newsletter, raise funds, write grants, and tend the cottage garden at the society's headquarters.

This Museum is a work in progress the House has many old household items capturing the past as it was many years ago. The living area has oil paintings and music related items including a 1800's piano. Connecticut's and Windsor Locks own Governor Ella Grasso has many items of her political life on display in the parlor including many documents and her awards.

The underground tunnels of an abandoned copper mine began to be used as a prison in Dec 1773. Over 800 inmates were confined here until the facility was closed in 1827.
