Our society's emphasis is geographically the coun-ties of McLean, Livingston, Ford & Woodford. The cemeteries of each were canvassed, recorded, and many old stones were photographed. We are con-stantly adding to our collection of obituaries as we find them to further one's research. The census for each county (thru 1930) is available for viewing, on microfilm and/or transcribed copies.

Pontiac is the legendary Ottawa Indian chief for which the city was named in 1837. The first settlers arrived in 1838. The city was platted in 1837 and became a center of population growth for the area. Industry was established in 1838 when a sawmill opened; the first grain mill opened in 1851.
