The Portal is located in a cemetery. The museum rooms are open Su 12-4 with a docent. There are 13 famous aviators buried under the Portal dome and the museum honors them. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The site contains an 1849 adobe and 1870 2 story stone house, with grounds, a duck pond, a blacksmith shop and historical displays. It is a favorite spot for families with children.

Exhibits at the Nature Center focus on water conservation, energy conservation, Indians of central and southern California and local animals.

Visitors to the Museum will find one of the world's largest collections of art and artifacts relating to Judaism and American life. The Discovery Center, designed for children, illuminates the process of biblical archaeology.

The SCFM Annual Conference is a time where we can celebrate the impact that museums have made on the state of South Carolina. It’s a time where we can share our successes, learn from our challenges, and grow as museum professionals.
