The Washington Museum Association was established to represent and serve museums of all types and sizes throughout Washington State.

The principal meeting of WVAM members is the spring Annual Conference. Meetings are hosted by a member institution and are held in rotating areas of the State to accommodate members. A conference committee is responsible for arranging for national and local presenters who will cover topics such as: interpretation of sites, conservation of museum objects, administration of museums, and other topics of interest to the museum community.
The Western Museums Association (WMA) is a nonprofit, membership organization dedicated to serving museums, museum professionals, as well as the related organizations and individuals, by providing vision, enrichment, intellectual challenge, and a forum for communication and interaction.
The Wisconsin Federation of Museums, Ltd., was founded in April, 1975 by Ralph Bufano, John Kuony and Joseph Hutchinson. The first Annual Meeting of the WFM was held at Beloit College. Other early contributors included Joseph Ishikawa, Jim Quinn, and the "Federation of Art Museums in Wisconsin."
