The fossil collection of the E.C. Allison Research Center at SDSU has been transferred to the San Diego Natural History Museum where they are being catalogued and incorporated into the large research collections of that insititution. All relevant supporting data, including field notes, aerial photographs, maps, and theses have been archived and are available for the use of interested researchers. Portions of the collection can be accessed through an online database located at www.sdnhm.

Exhibits in six restored historic buildings dating from the end of the 19th century: James Wickersham's first Courthouse, U.S. Custom House, the Improved Order of Redmen Lodge and three Fort Egbert buildings, all with period furnishings. Displays with photographs on the Gold Rush town, military fort and commercial center with judicial, communication, transportation, construction, agriculture, mining, pioneer activities and social organizations, schools, military, customs and Han Indian exhibits.

The Eagle Tavern is one of the earliest surviving structures in Oconee County. The Eagle Tavern was built before 1801 and possibly as early as 1794 when Watkinsville was a frontier town on the edge of Creek and Cherokee Indian Territories. It is believed by some that this site was once called Fort Edwards and served as a gathering place for early settlers who needed protection from attacks by the many Creek and Cherokee Indians who flourished in this area.
