For 200 years, the Academy has connected people to nature. As Philadelphia's natural history museum, we educate visitors of all ages. Our scientists study evolution, biodiversity and ecology, providing information critical to understanding the natural world. The South Florida Museum is the largest natural and cultural history museum on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Under that same roof is also the Parker Manatee Aquarium, home to Snooty, thought to be the oldest living manatee in captivity at age 61. With Snooty, are manatees in rehabilitation for US Fish and Wildlife. The Bishop Planetarium is a digital planetarium which serves also as a multipurpose theater.

This general museum features a variety of exhibits which focus on three areas--art, history and technology. The highlight of the permanent exhibitions is the auto gallery which features a unique robotic display with over fifty vehicles. The DeWitt Historical Society was formed in 1935 as a revival of two earlier historical societies of 1863-64 and 1888-1905. The first, the Ithaca Historical & Scientific Society, was started by Ezra Cornell, and lasted for less than two years. DHS was first formed in 1899 to promote Tompkins County history, and was named in honor of Simeon DeWitt, a prominent early Ithacan.
