Founded in 1973 on the campus of The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, the National Music Museum (NMM) & Center for Study of the History of Musical Instruments is one of the great institutions of its kind in the world. Its renowned collections, which include more than 15,000 American, European, and non-Western instruments from virtually all cultures and historical periods, are the most inclusive anywhere.

The Prairie Homestead was homsteaded By Ed Brown in 1909. The family lived here adding farmstead buildongs and fences until 1935. After this it was ocupied and maintained by a bachlor, George Car until 1949. It includes a sod dugout home and out buildings as if the people were living ther today. we also have a history room with manybooks on the period and a fine gift shop. The Prairie Homesteas was repaired and opend, buy my wife and I, to the public in 1963.
