This museum was created in 1989 as a history and archeology museum, with an interpretive region encompassing the Arkansas River Valley of western Arkansas, with particular emphasis on the history of the University and the immediate counties of Pope, Yell, and Johnson.

This museum is a history and archeology museum interpreting over 12,000 years of human experience in the Arkansas River Valley of western Arkansas. The interpretation plan covers eleven counties. The Museum is currently occupying parts of two buildings on the campus of Arkansas Tech University, Tucker Hall and the Techionery.
