The society has recently been gifted seven+ acres adjacent to the Mill and the Connecticut River which we will be developing into a nature and bird sanctuary, a natural ampitheater, nature trails, picnic and family recreational area, and the first river frontage the Village has had in over 100 years.

Born in Plymouth, Vermont, on July 4, 1872, Coolidge was the son of a village storekeeper. He was graduated from Black River Academy in 1890 and attended Amherst College, graduating with honors, and entered law and politics in Northampton, Massachusetts. Slowly, methodically, he went up the political ladder from councilman in Northampton to Governor of Massachusetts, as a Republican. En route he became thoroughly conservative.

Brattleboro is a river town rich in history. It was the site of the first permanent English settlement in Vermont, Fort Dummer, in 1724. The town was chartered in 1753. It has been a printing town since William Fessenden began publishing books in 1805. For more than 100 years Brattleboro was the home of the world famous Estey Organ Company.

The DAR John Strong Mansion Museum was built in the mid-1790's by General John Strong and his wife Agnes McClure Strong to replace the family's cabin that had been burned by the Indian and Tory forces under General John Burgoyne. Five generations of the Strong family occupied this lovely home until around the Civil War.
