he Allegany County Historical Society was founded in 1937, following the Cumberland Sesquicentennial Celebration. The purpose of the Society is to develop and preserve an awareness of history and traditions of Allegany County among its citizens and among visitors to the county.

The Benson Hammond House serves as the Ann Arrundell County Historical Society's headquarters and museum. A truck farm from 1830-1930, the museum contains many artifacts from local truck farms and contains an extensive picker check collection that reflects the system used by early farmers in the area to pay farm workers.

On Presidents’ Day, February 16, 2003, amid a record-breaking snowfall, one half of the Museum’s massive roof collapsed. The collapse occurred as a result of the weight of drifting snow on the western side of the building. Eyewitness accounts depict the drifts nearly six feet in depth. The first alarm was received at approximately 11:40 PM on February 16th. Museum officials responded to find two sections of the 22-sectioned roof collapsed.

Frederick County Landmarks Foundation is the proud owner of one of the most architecturally unique, and oldest known, standing buildings in Frederick County, MD. Located in the Mt. Pleasant District of Frederick County, the Beatty-Cramer House site is home to three structures. The primary building is a combination of the c.1748 Beatty portion of the house, the c.1855 Cramer addition, and later renovations. The two outbuildings are an 18th century spring house and a 19th century smoke house.

The Captain Avery Museum property is uniquely significant for its dual period of interpretation. From 1860 to 1890, the property was owned by Captain Salem Avery and the property remained in the family until 1920. Avery came to the Chesapeake from Long Island where his family had been sea captains for several generations. The Museum’s collections include artifacts from the Avery family, notably the family Bible given to Mrs. Avery as a wedding gift.

The Catonsville Historical Society Inc., is a non-profit organization that was organized in 1973 after the late Mrs. Robert Townsend had bequeathed her home and, her collection of 18th and early 19th century antiques to the Society. Her decorator workshop, which was next to the house, was later remodeled and enlarged for an office, meeting room, and museum to house Catonsville memorabilia. The enlarged and remodeled area ultimately became the Pullen Museum.

A group of volunteers committed to preserving life as it was known by the people living in the Clear Spring area generations ago. This group of volunteers have preserved Plumb Grove, once a dilapidated house, and filled the rooms with period furniture from other local homes, furniture made in Clear Spring, and Maryland made furniture. The Plumb Grove lawn contains 126 heritage roses and heritage flowers, vegetables and herbs, all enjoyed centuries ago by other people.
