Organized in 1951, the Cheshire Historical Society is a group of old and new residents who have a desire to discover and preserve the heritage of Cheshire, Connecticut. They educate and assist others in their inquiries into our past and promote a love for our town and its inhabitants.

Our first home was in the 1st. District School (1951-1956), then the old Cheshire Public Library (Williams House) on Main Street (1956-1972).

Connecticut Ancestry Society members are responsible, ethical genealogists and family historians who share a special interest in southwestern Connecticut and its neighborhood, either by living there, or by having ancestry there, or both; who pursue genealogical scholarship through networking, educational programs, and publication of reference materials and research results; and who extend full cooperation to other genealogical organizations, record repositories, and public record custodians.

The Society continues to participate in local history studies with the Coventry schools. The Society recognizes the need to teach children to understand the importance of preserving history. As they grow older, we hope they will continue to be active participants in the preservation of our history. Coventry Colonial Camp, cosponsored with the Antiquarian & Landmarks Society, is a one-week day camp held in July for youngsters in the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades.
