Here you can enjoy a walk along the nature trail winding around the pond, spot what is currently blooming in our native gardens, or venture inside and discover exhibits of local plants, animals, geology and history. The Nature Center offers an oasis for both old and young to explore, investigate and nurture their curiosity about the outdoors.

California State Parks announced May 13, 2011 a plan to close 70 of its 278 parks due to budget cuts. These cuts are mandated by AB 95, which was passed by the Legislature and signed into Law by the Governor. These closures are through the years 2011 – 13. This facility is one of the 70 closures.

Modoc County Historical Museum

Located in Alturas, it contains several exhibits pertaining to the culture and history of Modoc County in California. Exhibits range from prehistoric cultures to modern residents of the surrounding region. Natural history including mammoth bone, and a taxidermist collection of several local species. A gun collection of over 200 firearms all used and collected by local people.
