The SWUA, (now SUA) Slovenian Heritage Museum located on Historic Route 66, in Joliet, Ill., was founded in 1978 by Irene M. Odorizzi. The Musuem was dedicated in 1983. Dedicated members from Joliet Branch #20 made this possible. Branches and members throughout the U.S. have contributed to the displays and exhibits, either monetarily or with artifacts. All donations are welcome and greatly appreciated!

In 1976, in a one-room storefront log cabin, a small group of Swedes dared to dream about establishing a center of Swedish culture in America. Today’s Swedish American Museum is a bustling center of Swedish art, history, culture, and educational activities and programs. Each year, more than 43,000 visitors enjoy special exhibits, Swedish language classes, crafts, genealogy classes, concerts, lectures, films, and the interactive Brunk Children’s Museum of Immigration.

Skinner House

The Skinner House, dating to 1858, was built by two doctors who came to Griggsville from England. The home was restored in 1982 and is used as a community center and genealogy society for the Griggsville Genealogical Group. The home is open for visitors.

Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies

Spertus is Chicago's Jewish education and cultural center. It offers an innovative array of public programming, including exhibits, performances, films, and lectures some presented by the esteemed faculty who teach for its graduate programs. The institute collects, preserves, and displays materials from the Jewish experience in a stunning, contemporary building with fabulous views of Grant Park and Lake Michigan. Art from the institute's collection is showcased throughout the building and temporary exhibits examine aspects of Jewish culture. The building also includes a 400-seat theater and a gift shop that carries art, books, music, videos, and contemporary and traditional Jewish ceremonial gifts. Allow 1 hour.

Swedish Historical Society of Rockford

The Swedish Historical Society is organized exclusively for historical, educational, and charitable purposes. In harmony with this purpose is the operation of the Erlander Home Museum and the preservation of Swedish-American history and culture of Rockford through such activities as the conservation of artifacts, museum displays and educational programs.
One of the current and major initiatives of the Society today is the construction a new Cultural Center, to be located across the street from the Erlander Home Museum. This center will increase the ability to host international guests and activities that promote cultural peace and cooperation and as place to conduct educational programs.
