The city is presently experiencing significant growth. As you drive around, you will notice evolving commercial and residential development. We are pleased that Sandwich is continuing to grow and develop, while yet retaining its historical heritage. The Sandwich city offices are located in an 1879 City Hall/Opera House. This building was completely restored in 1979 and is on the National Register of Historic Buildings.

The Seattle Sutton Marseilles Museum helps us remember our rich history. That history starts in the 1830's when settlers in built a cabin by the Illinois river. The arrival of the Illinois-Michigan Canal (1848), the railroad (1853), and the Nabisco factory (1902) are also milestones in our city's history.

The Swedish Historical Society is organized exclusively for historical, educational, and charitable purposes. In harmony with this purpose is the operation of the Erlander Home Museum and the preservation of Swedish-American history and culture of Rockford through such activities as the conservation of artifacts, museum displays and educational programs.
One of the current and major initiatives of the Society today is the construction a new Cultural Center, to be located across the street from the Erlander Home Museum. This center will increase the ability to host international guests and activities that promote cultural peace and cooperation and as place to conduct educational programs.

Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies

Spertus is Chicago's Jewish education and cultural center. It offers an innovative array of public programming, including exhibits, performances, films, and lectures some presented by the esteemed faculty who teach for its graduate programs. The institute collects, preserves, and displays materials from the Jewish experience in a stunning, contemporary building with fabulous views of Grant Park and Lake Michigan. Art from the institute's collection is showcased throughout the building and temporary exhibits examine aspects of Jewish culture. The building also includes a 400-seat theater and a gift shop that carries art, books, music, videos, and contemporary and traditional Jewish ceremonial gifts. Allow 1 hour.

Sycamore History Museum

Step back in time and discover Sycamore's treasures while visiting "Lost Sycamore". This exhibit features Olympic torches, trophies from Sycamore's semi-professional baseball team, and reproduction items that were commonly available to be purchased in 1894 Sycamore. Don't forget to look at the items highlighted in "Hidden Sycamore". You are invited to examine photos of places that appear lost, but reveal their past when you take a closer look.
