Confederate Memorial Park is the site of Alabama's only Old Soldiers Home for Confederate Veterans. In operation from 1902 to 1939, the home cared for elderly veterans, and wives and widows of veterans. The site included 22 buildings consisting of cottages, a hospital, dairy barn, mess hall, an elaborate water and sewage system, and Memorial Hall, an administration building which held offices, a library, and a large auditorium. The home served between 650 and 800 residents.

Fendall Hall is one of Alabama’s outstanding Italianate houses and contains elaborate and rare interior decorative painting dating from the 1880s. Completed in 1860 by Edward and Anna Young, it was home to five generations of the Young family. It was purchased by the Alabama Historical Commission (AHC) in 1973 for preservation as a house museum, and it is now open to the public. It is restored and interpreted to the 1880-1916 occupancy of the home.

The Dauphin Island Park and Beach Board operates Historic Fort Gaines, the Dauphin Island Campground, fishing piers, a public gulf beach, the Audubon Sanctuary and various parks located on this resort island.

In the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin, a single man captured the attention of the world, winning 4 gold medals, an Olympic first. Sixty years later, thousands gathered to honor this man with the dedication of a park named in his honor, the Jesse Owens Memorial Park. Dedicated on June 29, 1996 with the arrival of the Olympic torch on its journey to the Atlanta games, the Jesse Owens Memorial Park is a tribute to the Olympic track and field superstar.

The museum has the first and only local education Space Center with a sit-in space capsule in Selma, Alabama. The museum displays all history from civil rights to civil war to Native Americans to British to Motherland to historic toy collection to Novelty to Space and beyond.
