Buehler Planetarium and Observatory

Located on the central campus of Broward Community College, the planetarium was built in 1965 through a bequest of aviation pioneer Emil Buehler. Over the past 35 years, the planetarium has presented star shows and astronomical programs to almost a million visitors. As a result of a substantial gift from the Emil Buehler Trust, the planetarium has been completely renovated, reopening in 1988 with a Zeiss M1015 star projector and a sophisticated computerized automation system.

Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park

The Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park is a 15 acre waterfront, Historical Site where St. Augustine, Florida began in 1565. Here, on September 8, 1565, Spanish Explorer Pedro Menendez de Aviles established the oldest continuous European Settlement in the U.S., and held the first recorded Thanksgiving Feast between Europeans and Native Americans - 55 years before the Pilgrims. The site is 42 years older than Jamestown, and is open 364 days a year.

The BCC Planetarium & Observatory offers several unique ways to explore outer space. Underneath its signature 70-foot dome, the planetarium theater features a first-of-its-kind dual projection system, one of the largest public observatories in the State of Florida, a hands-on demonstration hall and an Iwerks movie theater. These features, each innovative on its own, work together to connect Earthbound visitors with the far reaches of our galaxy and beyond.

The new Frost Science is structured around a lushly landscaped indoor and outdoor Living Core Aquarium of terrestrial and aquatic environments, featuring a Gulf Stream Aquarium experience totaling over 500,000 gallons of salt water. The facility includes state-of-the-art, full-dome Frost Planetarium, the Knight Learning Center, Innovation Center and Café, and an Exploration Center featuring permanent interactive exhibits. The Frost Science is funded with the support of Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.

The South Florida Museum is the largest natural and cultural history museum on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Under that same roof is also the Parker Manatee Aquarium, home to Snooty, thought to be the oldest living manatee in captivity at age 61. With Snooty, are manatees in rehabilitation for US Fish and Wildlife. The Bishop Planetarium is a digital planetarium which serves also as a multipurpose theater.
