The museum is a privately owned 18,000 square foot facility displaying the privately owned militaria collection of the Rancour family. The growing collection is comprised of foreign and domestic militaria including weapons, uniforms, photos and equipment from armed conflicts including WWI thru the present. The collections generally emphasize identified service personnel and their military experiences.

The rich history of the people who originally lived, and those who later settled the "Middle Border Region" is unbelievable here at Dakota Discovery Museum. From 1600 you can see the ways of the American Indian change and develop as the pioneer settlers move across the Middle Border Region. Indian artifacts include delicate porcupine quillwork and beadwork. There are changing exhibits of historical and artistic nature.
