The museum is a privately owned 18,000 square foot facility displaying the privately owned militaria collection of the Rancour family. The growing collection is comprised of foreign and domestic militaria including weapons, uniforms, photos and equipment from armed conflicts including WWI thru the present. The collections generally emphasize identified service personnel and their military experiences.

The Garretson Heritage Museum is an educational, cultural, and social learning center for children and families with a primary focus on history of our local area (Garretson, Sherman, and Booge; SD). The museum is governed by the Garretson Area Historical Society and many dedicated volunteers.

Fort Meade was an active military fort from 1878 to 1944. Today it is active in Officer Training Schools. They perserve the history in and to the Black Hills of South Dakota. The museum displays many remnants of the historic peacekeeping old post and faithfully preserves them. There are numerous mementos of the colorful units and the troopers who served at the Fort Meade Museum.
