Description

THE HAWK MUSEUM IS 800 ACRES OF BEAUTIFUL FARM LAND. WITH ACRES OF GREEN LAWNS AND THE FLAVOR OF AN OLD TOWN. WHAT WITH THE BEAUTIFUL CHURCH, THE GENERAL STORE/POST OFFICE, SCHOOL AND OTHER HOMETOWN ORIGINAL BUILDINGS FROM THIS AREA.

Mission

To preserve the history of the early settlers and the history of the farming industry in the Mid-West. With tractors, fire equipment, tools, and transportation such as horse driven school buses, from the early 1900's. We also have the only known working hackney autoplow in existance. We also are preserving some of the local history such as a church, a store and post office cobination, a law office that was a grain silo and an early local school house.

History

DALE AND MARTHA HAWK WERE A FARMING COUPLE WHO LIVED HERE FROM THE 1930's UNTIL THEIR DEATHS IN THE 1980's AND 1990's. DALE HAWK WAS AN INVENTOR OF SORTS AND FASHIONED TOOLS AND TRAVELING MACHINERY TO GET AROUND THE PLAINS IN THE WINTER MONTHS. WHEN SNOW WAS IN ABUNDANCE AND FARMERS WERE MILES FROM THE NEAREST STORE. CHILDREN NEEDED TO GET TO SCHOOL IN THE FREEZING COLD. IN THE EARLY 60's DALE STARTED PRESERVING TRACTORS AND SUCH. PEOPLE STARTED TO DONATE AND ONE THING LED TO ANOTHER AND THE HAWK HOME AND FARM WAS A MUSEUM AND HAS GROWN OVER THE YEARS. IT IS RUN AND PRESERVED ON A VOLUNTEER BASIS AND GETS NO FUNDING FROM THE FEDERAL, STATE OR LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
