Birthplace of President Ronald Reagan. Born in an apartment over a bakery, which later became a bank. The bank has been restored to it's original layout and the Reagan apartment has been furnished reminiscent of the time frame when young Ronald lived there. A Gift Shop is located next door for souvenirs and a photo gallery of prominent people in Ronald's life in Tampico.
Tours of the Reagan Birthplace upstairs apartment, and The 1st National Bank on first floor are available.
Ronald Reagan is the only president that was born in Illinois. Tampico has two museums, one is dedicated to Ronald Reagan. The other, located a few doors down on Main Street houses all of Tampico's rich history. Other prominent people born in Tampico include Rear Admiral Joseph Mason Reeves who served 3 wars, was Chief Naval Officer and the first football helmet was designed for him in 1894, the Shaheen family (Ruth Shaheen is wife of Hugh Downs).
