Description

The purpose of the Warrenville Historical Society is to bring together those interested in Warrenville's history, and to collect, preserve and display objects and documents that illustrate that history. The Historical Society is a self-supporting not-for-profit organization. The Warrenville Historical Society was organized in 1980 and the Society opened the Warrenville Historical Museum in 1984. Space was provided for the Museum in one room of the Greek Revival Style Albright Building through the generosity of the City of Warrenville, interest groups, businesses and individuals. The museum now encompasses the entire building. The Museum is supported by the Warrenville Historical Society Memberships, donations, fund raisers, and the Warrenville Museum Guild, as well as a grant from the City of Warrenville.

The City of Warrenville owns and maintains the Albright Building. The collection is owned by the Warrenville Historical Society. The museum is run by a Museum Director and tours are provided by volunteer docents and junior docents. The collection consists of photos, documents and artifacts pertaining to the history of Warrenville.

The museum boasts an art gallery including paintings by Adam and Malvin Albright and many artifacts of the Albrights found in the building during the renovation. It also includes many works of Warrenville artists or scenes of Warrenville painted by such well-known Illinois artists as Lane K. Newberry.

The Warrenville Historical Museum provides workshops and resources for teachers to assist them in teaching local history units.

The museum store is open during museum hours. Items include the Warrenville Commorative Ornament, books of Warrenville History, Old Fashoined Toys, art prints, and various items crafted by the Museum Guild. When the musuem is closed, some of the books can be purchased by check (made out to Warrenville Historical Society) at these local businesses: •Al's Pizza - 28W241 Warrenville Rd. •Minuteman Press - 3S009 Rt. 59.
