Mission

Our mission is to develop interest in and preserve the history of the Middletown Valley.

History

This property is part of the original "Smithfield" settlement which, in 1766, was purchased by Michael Jesserong and renamed "Middletown." The following year, Jesserong sold the lot on which this building stands to Conrad Crone, who then acquired the remainder of Jesserong's holdings and became Middletown's "developer."

In 1820, Peter Young purchased the eastern portion of the lot for $350, and, 20 years later, built the present house from stone quarried on his farm north of town. This house is one of the oldest stone structures still standing within the town limits.
