Description

Our museum collects historical information about Live Oak County and people that have lived in the county. We write stories and help people write stories about their family history.

We are learning to appraise artifacts and help people that need information, though we do not appraise for them.

History

A spinster, Grace Armantrout, bought land and got oil and gas on her land. She developed a home museum in her 12 room home. She left everything in trust to provide a county museum. In 1995 the Grand Opening of the museum with a new building was held. The County of Live Oak has accepted this museum as the county museum and provides large equipment and manpower. The City of George West also provides manpower and large equipment in as much as Miss Armantrout donated land for a city park.

The museum is run by 4 trustee, a director, paid part-time and 38 volunteers who work 4 or 8 hours each month.
