Description

The San Lorenzo Valley Museum provides a historical representative of the towns of Felton, Ben Lomond, Brookdale, Boulder Creek and the surrounding area. Our mission is to preserve the history of San Lorenzo Valley through collecting and exhibiting artifacts, gathering historical information, and providing education through the San Lorenzo Valley Museum and our educational outreach programs.

History

The Boulder Creek Historical Society, which owns and manages the San Lorenzo Valley Museum, was founded by three people from Boulder Creek and incorporated the BCHS in 1976. These founders plus other family, friends, and neighbors began the task of collecting and preserving the history of the area, finding storage whereever possible. The need for a place to exhibit these historical artifacts took several years. The first museum location was a second-floor office space that was used for 20 years. The current museum was purchased in 1995 and is a Santa Cruz County registered historic building. The old-growth church was originally built in 1906 and was first used by the Boulder Creek Episcopal congregation and then purchased by the Church of Christ, Scientist. The Boulder Creek Historical Society has upgraded the museum structure, built an annex to house the collections when not being exhibited, and started landscaping the grounds.

Artifact Collections

The collections include vintage clothing, antique logging tools, household items, archives (including several old newspapers (some complete), scrapbooks, photos, posters, letters), railroad items, school items, and business items.

Governance

There is a Board of Directors made up of nine volunteers.
