THE MUSEUM WILL BE CLOSED TO REPAIR DAMAGE FROM THE TORNADO ON APRIL 27, 2024. WE HOPE TO OPEN SOMETIME IN 2025.

Local history, Turner Ranch, Platt National Park, businesses, 1906 Artesian Hotel.

Mission

AHSMC Historical Museum is working to preserve and interpret the history of Sulphur, OK, from its time as part of the Chickasaw Nation, I. T., through it's two moves and resulting upheaval to the present day. Sulphur was a popular vacation destination because of it's natural springs, many of which were considered medicinal by early visitors. Platt National Park, now Chickasaw National Recreation Area, was established in 1903 to protect and preserve the springs in natural state for all visitors.

History

Our building - built in 1917 - was used by the fire and police departments 24/7 until 1999 when they moved into a new Sulphur City Complex. Since 1999 approximately $100,000 has been spent to refurbish both the inside and outside. Our next major project if we can get a grant,is to put in an elevator for the benefit of the elderly and physically challenged.
