Description

Rotating art exhibits with all media, including electronic produced art. Permanent history displays, including historic preservation and downtown revitalization. Historic research and publications. Children's hands-on exhibits. Quilt exhibits.

Every corner of "Eliza's Attic" has a pioneer display. Children will have the opportunity to view an orchard suspended from the ceiling, open a chest-of-drawers of trials, provide the head for mannequins dressed in early-day apparel, and watch a chicken and vegetables cooking in a fireplace. Behind a door at the top of some stairs, the young people will meet Blind Man Jones, one of the first mail carriers in the city.

At "The Homestead," children will know what it's like to work from morning until night like the pioneers as they push a plow in a field, bend metal with a blacksmith vise and sharpen plastic knives on a grinding stone. Other tasks for the children will be drilling holes with an auger, weighing bags of "gold" with a steelyard, cranking and casing sausage, working a butter churn and making strawberry pies for dinner.
