Set on two acres, just southeast of McKinney's historic downtown square, Chestnut Square consists of five houses, a general store, a chapel, a stage coah inn and a smoke house. Plans are to bring in, or replicate, a 1900s school house this year (2004) thus rounding out the sense of community.

The Heard-Craig Historic Center consists of a 7,000 sq. ft. historic home and carriage house built in 1900. The home contains breathtaking stained glass, original furnishings,
personal belongings, family heirlooms, and art collected by the Heard and Craig families.
The Heard family was instrumental in the early development of the city of McKinney.

The museum is open seven days a week and sponsors many educational and special interest programs as well as tours for a variety of groups such as seniors, special education, and civic tour groups. Two of the most popular programs during 1997 was the production of "Charlotte's Web" which was attended by over 1400 local children and the annual Scout Day which had 1200 in attendance.

This unique museum is focused on the Electric Railway System which operated in North Texas from 1908-1948.
The museum houses artifacts and displays from that system.

The Sachse Historical Society was established in 1989 to presesrve the history of the community, and record the present for future generations. The city of Sachse made available to the Society a building, which was renovated in 2005 and opened as a museum in 2006. In 2006 a master plan for the direction of the museum was implemented, and collections software was installed in 2007.
