Albany Museum of Art

The Albany Museum of Art (AMA) was originally incorporated by the State of Georgia in 1964 as the Southwest Georgia Art Association as a volunteer community group. The non-profit association was housed in a defunct hosiery mill and established a program of exhibitions, lectures and art classes. In 1969, through the generosity of W. Banks Haley, Jr., the association constructed a 5,000 square-foot facility on a small city park. Its first professional staff members were hired in 1975. Exhibitions were drawn from collections of the following organizations; SITES (Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service), IBM, Coca-Cola, Gulf States Paper and the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia.

Founded in 1973 as Nexus, a grassroots artist’s cooperative, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (ACAC) has become one of the southeast’s leading contemporary art centers. We play a vital role in Atlanta’s cultural landscape by presenting cutting-edge contemporary art reflective of the world around us, offering diverse educational programming for people of all ages, and supporting working artists and their creative process. ACAC presents 8-10 exhibitions per year featuring consequential artists from the local to international art scenes. We are one of the few local institutions that commissions new works by artists. We pay particular attention to artists of note who have not had a significant exhibition in the southeast.

Aviation Wing of the Marietta Museum of History

The Aviation Wing of the Marietta Museum of History is presently comprised of a 15.5 acre park. The park features various civilian and military aircraft from the latter half of the twentieth century in addition to aircraft produced locally in Marietta. Aviation in Marietta begins with Bell Aircraft in the early 1940s and continued to grow with Lockheed Martin from the 1950s to present. Aviation has played an integral role in Marietta's history and with aircraft manufacturing continuing to be a prominent industry; the Aviation Wing desires to have visitors explore the complete story of our community. The Aviation Wing will officially open to the public the first of the New Year 2011.
